6 Free Music Download Sites That Will Blow Your Mind

There zillions (a totally scientific number) of sites out there offering free MP3 music. Check out some of these sweet free music download sites which offer a different take on the music download biz.

Reverb Nation

Reverb Nation is my personal favorite free music download site. You can browse albums, download free MP3’s, view music videos, become a fan, read the latest buzz on your fave artist, join the artist street team, and much more. Reverb Nation is an amazing free music site for new artists who want to reach out to fans through digital distribution and online marketing. For no charge whatsoever, I created a nifty widget that allowed me to upload songs from my recently released album, set up music videos, a fan list, and even free downloads of select songs on the album. There are additional options that you can add for minimal costs.

Amie Street

Amie Street offers thousands, if not millions, of new music MP3’s from upcoming artists for free. Once an album achieves “popularity” (gauged by number of hits), then the price begins to climb. Check out their New Releases tab to get the latest hot albums before their prices skyrocket.

Stumble Audio

More of an MP3 browser, Stumble Audio allows you to browse thousands and thousands of new albums. Now available as a Facebook application, Stumble Audio also has a “Stumble Spy” mode which lets you virtually “stumble” on random albums. The chart tab lets you browse music by typical “Most Liked/Disliked” and also the “Most Stumbled”. A fun concept that can keep you entertained at for hours on end!

PayPlay

Pay Play has recently joined forces with Stumble Audio to carry an even broader spectrum of the latest hot music. There are a few interesting quirks with Pay Play. For example, you can download a printable version of the band’s CD cover or even create a widget of a favorite band for your own blog.

American Music Center Online Library

For those of you interested in more high-brow classical music, the American Music Center’s Online Library offers thousands of free MP3 downloads, sheet music, and scores from contemporary American composers. Using their browser, you can choose whether to look for scores and audio, only scores or only audio, which is great if you are searching from some amazing new music to listen to or perform. If you are a composer, you can join the American Music Center and set up a profile to promote your music.

CD Baby

Finally, although not a site for free MP3 downloads, CD Baby is truly a struggling musician’s best friend. For a nominal fee, a band can send their album (commercially produced or made at home) to CD Baby, where a UPC Code and web page is set up to promote the album. The best feature is the digital distribution options, which allow CD Baby to distribute your new album to i-Tunes, Amazon.com, and other online distributors based upon your preferences. Although I have not had a ton of sales through CD Baby, the exposure has opened up doors to many new opportunities. Rock on!
