5 Professional Beauty Tips for the Everyday Girl

Flaky Scalp

BEAUTY TIP 1: Nails
Is there anything worse than opening up a bottle of your favorite nail polish only to find that it has become thick and gummy? Add a few drops or nail polish remover or clear fingernail polish to the bottle. Shake it very well and voila, your old polish is as good as new again. (Be careful though! A little of the nail polish remover goes a long way. Anymore than a tiny drop in the bottle can ruin your polishes!)

Also, keeping your nail polishes in the refrigerator will help them last about two times longer! Growing up, my mother would always keep some of her polishes in the fridge. I always thought it seemed a bit odd, but doing so actually keeps out warm air bubbles that could alter the color of the nail polish or even dry it up. Your nail polishes will last twice as long storing them this way!

BEAUTY TIP 2: Eyes
We all know how much of a pain in the butt eyebrow grooming can be! Whether you wax them, tweeze them, thread them, or shave them off only to draw thing back on..eyebrows should be a very important step in any woman’s beauty regimen! I myself can’t afford to have my brows professionally groomed all the time, so these are a few tips and tricks that I use to help keep my eyebrows in top shape.

A good pair of tweezers is key! You should also have a lash comb, a magnifying makeup mirror and manicure scissors to trim any stray hairs with. Prior to grooming your eyebrows, brush all of your brows straight up using an old mascara wand, toothbrush, or brow brush. The hairs under your brow line that do not belong will be easier to see, and you can trim any especially long hairs on top while they are in this straight-up position, as well just use nail scissors and trim carefully. And whatever you do, DON’T overtweeze!

BEAUTY TIP 3: Skin
Suffering from oily skin? If you need to soak up extra oil in your T-Zones (forehead, nose, chin), you can use blotting papers to quickly give your face a more matte appearance. These sheets often come in small, pocket-sized packets; many are offered with rice powder or in a powder-free option. The packets are very cheap and can be slipped into your purse or desk drawer.

Or maybe winter weather has your complexion looking dry and dull? Brighten your skin by adding a little moisturizer with a luminescent liquid or cream highlighter to your normal foundation. Opt for a rich, subtle cream with micronized minerals or a pearly or opalescent dose of shimmer. Apply to the brow bones, cheeks, and collarbones to give your skin that all over healthy glow.

BEAUTY TIP 4: Hair
If you are fighting an irritating, itchy and flaky scalp, you can use yogurt to remove flakes and keep your scalp itch-free. Simply massage a plain Greek or dairy yogurt into your scalp, then allow it to sit for no longer than 15 minutes. After you rinse, you should notice less flakes and itching.

If your hair tends to be more on the oily side, avoid washing it every day! When you wash your hair, try to avoid high shine or gloss shampoos as well as 2-in-1 shampoos. You may also want to avoid conditioners all together, but if you do use them try to avoid applying at your roots, but rather at the ends of your hair. For a quick fix, sprinkle some talcum powder onto your roots to absorb any greasiness. It will blend into your hair and won’t be noticeable.
