4th of July Celebrations in Chicago’s Western Suburbs

Happy Birthday America! Time to celebrate the birth of our nation. Chicago brings a variety of activities to celebrate the 4th of July, however, battling traffic, the crowds, and heat may not appeal to suburbanites. So, a variety of fun activities are available for those who live outside of the city. Consider celebrating the 4th of July with parades and fireworks in the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois at the following locations.

Wheaton
Snapshots of America” the parade theme for the 2012 Independence Day celebration in Wheaton, IL. Enjoy this celebration in the historic city of Wheaton, IL in Dupage County. The parade starts at 10 a.m., and route begins at Hawthorne and Main Street and ends in beautiful downtown Wheaton. Grab your blankets and lawn chairs on Tuesday, July 3 and head to the Dupage County Fairgrounds at 2015 Manchester Road. Fireworks start at dusk.

Downers Grove

This year Downers Grove will switch things up with a reverse route for the parade. This new direction parade will start at 12:45 p.m. at Main Street and Grant Street on the north side of Downers Grove and end flow south on Main Street and end in Downtown Downers Grove on Warren Avenue. The Village of Downers Grove and Village of Woodridge combine to bring sparkling fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. at 75th Street and Lemont Road.

Glen Ellyn
Glen Ellyn starts the day with a parade on July 4th at noon. The parade starts east of Glenbard West High School on Crescent Boulevard and ends at the lovely Lake Ellyn. Once at Lake Ellyn stay all day till dusk and enjoy the fireworks display.

Aurora
Parade and festivities start at 9:15 a.m. on South River Street and West Benton Street in Aurora. Patriotic picnic and fireworks will be on Tuesday, July 3rd at Plainfield Central High School 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive from 5-9:30 p.m.

The 4th of July brings time for relaxation, fun, and quality time with family and friends. This time of year also brings times of reflection about our great nation, the United States of America. So, chose your favorite western suburb of Chicago, and enjoy America’s favorite past time, parades, and fireworks.
